SOCCER AS A SPORT
Soccer is the most popular sport in the world and is played by nearly 2 million people. Among the male population in the United States, soccer is now able to compete with baseball, basketball and football. Soccer is also one of the most popular sports among the female population.
The sport is so popular because almost anybody can play. Players do not need to be very tall like in basketball or extremely powerful and big like in football. Soccer players need only to learn basic moves , build stamina and practice. This is why we need camps and clinics, to teach basic techniques to beginners and strengthen the knowledge and skill among youngsters that already play soccer.
While Soccer demands that the players are in peak physical condition, it is a sport that causes less physical wear and tear of other professional sports. Less than 1 % of soccer players ( 1 in 18000 ) incur a grave life-threatening injury with longer recuperation times or loss of ability to return to the sport.
Soccer is one of the most lucrative sports in the world and good players can devote up to 40 years of their life (goalies a little longer), be financially secure for the rest of their lives and often invest their time and money in helping young people that have the same dreams that they had when they were young.
Like any sport, soccer needs good schools of formation (clinics, camps, academies, etc.), total dedication and practice. This is complemented with good coaches and good soccer academics.
